Resident Evil 8, known as BIOHAZARD RE:8 (バイオハザード RE:8?) in Japan, is a Survival Horror game by Capcom's Division 1 studio. The game is a direct sequel to Resident Evil 7. The game was announced on June 12, 2021 during the E3 2021 Sony Conference. This is first next-gen Resident Evil game for PS5, Xbox Two and PC. This game will not release on previous gen consoles.

A trailer and demo of the game were shown at E3 2021 during Sony's panel, showcasing various new areas, hints of expanded story elements and new redesigns of classic characters along with a slated release date of January 27, 2022.

Capcom had decided to return to third person over-shoulder perspective for this game instead of first person view of the previous game in the series Resident Evil 7, this is mainly due to the massive success of Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 3 Remake.

The game takes place in a brand new locations in the series, which takes place in two countries. England and Scotland. Some locations within these countries shown in the trailer were countrysides, towns, cities, castles and underground sewage lines. The game producer had recently publically said that one of the main influences for this game was from '28 Days Later' movie.

In Resident Evil 8, you play as new protaganist 'Harry Spring', a british MI6 agent whom is tasked to investigate an abandoned farm North of England. During the investigation Harry comes across newly infected people with a new virus 'B Virus'. This new virus has distinct similarities to both T Virus and G Virus, which triggers both type of mutations at random times and evolves over time. This virus is much more unpredictable as it turns people into slow movie zombies and smart zombies at random. In terms of gameplay mechanics this would be a mix between Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 4 type of enemies mixed together, during most encounters you will face the normal zombies with added challenge of smart zombies which can run and mutate as time progresses.

Capcom has also stated that this would include multiple locations such as large open countrysides, towns and cities. This game also allows you to drive vehicles.

The locations in Resident Evil 8 such as countryside is also heavily inspired by Resident Evil 4 in terms of open space enviroment.
