John Wolf is a security officer in the private military company Archangel Security.

John Wolf was born in 1972. At the age of eighteen, he joined the United States Navy, where he served as a sailor for several years before volunteering for the United States Navy SEALs. He retired from military life in 1995 and moved to Raccoon City, where he was recruited into the newly formed Special Tactics and Rescue Service's Alpha Team. In 1996, John succeeded in joining the S.T.A.R.S unit, becoming a member of Alpha Team as Rear Security, fulfilling the role of Explosive Ordinance Disposal. He quickly became established as an important member of the team. He became good friends with fellow Alpha team member Brad Vickers.

Mansion Incident

During the spring and early summer months of 1998 there were several reports of missing persons and deaths involving hikers in the Arklay Mountains, where the deceased were apparently mauled and eaten by large canines. Several cannibalistic murders were also reported in the outskirts of Raccoon City. On the night of 23 July 1998 Bravo Team was sent in to investigate in search of a suspected hideout. Contact with them was lost. The next night, on 24 July, 1998, Alpha Team was sent out to search for the missing Bravo Team. Upon finding the smoking remains of Bravo Team's helicoptor Alpha Team landed in a clearing and investigated the crash cite. John stayed behind with Brad to 'secure their position' but in reality took the time to smoke a cigarette. Hearing gunshots John quickly put out the cigarette, drawing his gun before realizing that Brad started the helicoptor. While the rest of his team ran into the forest, John quickly ran into the helicoptor before Brad had a chance to take off. Brad, too shocked to be reasoned with, fled in the helicoptor, abandoning his comrads with John in tow. John was eventually able to convince Brad to turn the helicoptor around and search for their missing comrad's. After several hours of attempted radio contact John and Brad spotted a signal flair coming from an adandoned helipad and located what remained of their team. John and Brad bore witness to the Tyrant (T-002) and the ensuing fight. John would throw an M202 Rocket Launcher to Jill, who would use it to kill the monster. John assisted the injured Chris into the helicoptor, and with the rest of his team would fly back to the police department.
